Bingwa Automation App: How to Pick and Set It Up

An automation app can send bundles while you sleep, but only if your till is ready and you pick, install and test it with care.

Quick Answer

A Bingwa automation app is an Android app that sees a customer's M-Pesa payment, works out which bundle it buys, and runs the USSD steps on your phone to send it. To use one safely: get your till whitelisted first, take the app only from its maker's own page, give only the permissions it needs, set your bundles and prices, then run one small test order before real customers.

What a Bingwa automation app does

Every Bingwa Sokoni sale ends with the same job: send the customer's bundle with a USSD request from your phone. By hand, that means reading the payment message, checking the amount, dialling the right steps and typing the customer's number. An automation app does those steps for you.

Most apps follow the same path. Details differ from app to app, so read what yours says it does.

  • It sees the M-Pesa message when a customer pays to your till.
  • It matches the amount to a bundle you set up.
  • It runs the USSD steps on your phone and sends the bundle to the customer.
  • It keeps a list of orders that went through, failed or are waiting.

Who needs one, and who can wait

If you get five orders a day, you can sell by hand and learn how the business really works. If you get thirty or fifty, you will start to make mistakes and keep customers waiting. That is when an app pays for itself. Our guide on whether Bingwa agents need an automation app shows how to decide.

An app never replaces your till. It cannot sell anything until Safaricom has whitelisted your till for Bingwa Sokoni. Finish that first, or you may pay for software you cannot use yet.

Five checks before you install anything

Most of what you can read online about specific apps is written by the people selling them. Treat claims as claims, and check these five things yourself.

  • Source: use the maker's own page. Do not install a file that someone forwards on WhatsApp or Telegram.
  • Permissions: these apps often ask to read SMS and use Android accessibility. That is how many of them work, but the permissions are powerful. Give them only to a maker you trust.
  • Secrets: never share your M-Pesa PIN or an OTP code with an app or a person, whatever the reason.
  • Support: can you reach the maker when Safaricom changes a menu? Look for a phone number or a WhatsApp line that answers.
  • Records: the app should show a clear history of what succeeded and what failed.

Set it up in six steps

The order matters. Skipping ahead is how agents lose airtime on orders that never arrive.

  • Step 1: Finish your till and whitelisting. Without them there is nothing to automate.
  • Step 2: Choose a phone that stays on. A cheap spare phone that is always charged beats your personal phone that goes flat.
  • Step 3: Put your Bingwa line in that phone and check the signal.
  • Step 4: Install the app from the maker's own page and give only the permissions it needs.
  • Step 5: Add your bundles and prices so the amount a customer pays matches the right bundle.
  • Step 6: Run a test order before you tell customers.

Test with one small order first

Pay your own till from another number and watch the whole path: the payment message arrives, the app picks the right bundle, the USSD steps run, and the bundle lands on the phone. Check that the app's list shows the order as done.

Then test one failure on purpose, such as a wrong amount, and see what the app does. A good app stops and tells you. A poor one guesses. If it guesses, find another app.

Keep it running

Automation is not set-and-forget. Phones stop background apps to save battery, SIM cards move between slots, and Safaricom sometimes changes the USSD steps without warning. If the app is still using the old steps, it sends the wrong request and you lose airtime with nothing delivered.

  • Check each morning that the phone is charged, has signal and the app is running.
  • Look at the list of failed and waiting orders every day.
  • Keep enough airtime in the line that sends the bundles, and top up early.
  • After any Android or app update, run a small test order before busy hours.
  • If something breaks, our troubleshooting checklist lists the checks in the order to try them.

If you are not yet an agent, start with the till. Our join page explains what you need, and the paid setup guide walks you through the till, whitelisting, onboarding and the automation step in the right order, including which app we use and how to get it. It is a single payment and you keep the link.

If you already sell, how Bingwa automation apps work explains each stage in more detail, and using a dedicated phone covers the phone itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Bingwa automation app?

It is an Android app that watches for a customer's M-Pesa payment, matches it to a bundle and runs the USSD steps on your phone to send that bundle, so you do not do each order by hand.

Do I need an automation app to start?

No. You can sell by hand while you learn, and many agents do. An app helps once orders come faster than you can handle them.

Can an automation app get my till whitelisted?

No. Only Safaricom whitelists a till. An app only helps after your till already works with Bingwa Sokoni.

Is it safe to give an app SMS and accessibility permissions?

It can be, if the maker is trustworthy and you got the app from their own page. Never share your M-Pesa PIN or OTP codes, and remove any app you no longer trust.
